Foundations workshop · Six sessions
Rooted
What it means to build a life on something that holds when the weather turns.
Every life gets weather. That is not a warning, it is simply the forecast — Jesus sent the storm to both houses in the parable, the one built on rock and the one built on sand. What the storm revealed was not who had been spared, but what had been underneath the whole time.
These six sessions work through what holds. They move from the ground you are standing on, down into the root system, out through the pruning and the people around you, and finally to the weight your own fruit puts on you. Each session includes the teaching, a reflection exercise to work through on your own, and questions for group discussion.
Take them in order. Take them slowly. There is no schedule attached to this and no one keeping score.
The sessions
Six sessions, in order.
-
Session One
The Soil and the Storm
Two houses. One storm. The difference was never visible from the street.
-
Session Two
Sinking the Taproot
Two plants in the same heat. One is afraid of it. One barely notices.
-
Session Three
Pruning for Endurance
Two trees in the same wind. The fuller one comes out of the ground.
-
Session Four
Interlocking Roots
The tallest trees on earth have shallow roots. They should fall constantly. They almost never do.
-
Session Five
The Weight of Heavy Fruit
The thing that finally brings a fruit tree down is usually its own fruit.
-
Session Six
Standing Unshaken
Five weeks on what holds you up. This week, on who is standing underneath it.
All six sessions are ready to read and work through, on your own or with a group. If you are walking through this with others and would like help facilitating it, we would be glad to hear from you.
